I'm baaaack ;D. [obviously, lol] I finished my first semester of Uni a few weeks ago, so I'm free [well, somewhat] until I go back on the 23rd of July. So I figured I will return and see how the fam's going. Missed you guys *HUGS*. Before I bore you all with my life: congrats to Matt for the Bloodsimple shirt, your sign looked fair cool [good luck in Ireland ], congrats to Vin who by the looks of things has found himself a special friend [nice to see you have someone there for you ] and an extra HUGE [glow=red,2,300]congratulations[/glow] to Ginelly who got her dream job [so happy for you *hugs*]. Now, uh..what's been happening with me that'd be interesting to tell you guys. I got a job with an Australian chocolate company called Cocoa Farm as a promotions assistant. Basically I get paid to stand in supermarkets getting people to taste chocolate, which may seem boring, but the pay's good, so I can't complain. Better than working at McD's, lol. I might get a second job working in Donut King with a friend [who's trying to get me the job], but I'm not sure yet..only had the interview on Tuesday, so I'll see what happens. Apart from that, as some of you know, I've been trying to put a band together for quite a while now. Well, it's finally happening ;D. We're having our first jam session in a few weeks at my place, which'll be awesome. We're thinking of playing hard rock music with some metal/electronic influences. So far, the band has a [female soprano] vocalist [..so we're looking a male vocalist who can scream/growl], two guitarists [one who also wants to go on keyboards/synth sometimes], maaaybe a drummer [I'm still looking into that] and a bassist [me..I'm saving up for a Warwick because I like the sleeker models they have, they're easier for me to hold as opposed to say, an Ibanez...and my guitar teacher says it'll be easy for me to switch from electric to bass because I prefer notation and finger picking...though I'm bummed that I won't get any guitar solos though, haha]. And my two guitarist friends and I have signed up for this "Rock Chik School" [http://www.mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=911], so fingers crossed we'll all get in. It'd be a great activity for us to do. I've elected to do bass guitar and song writing. And that's all really. I've just been catching up with friends during my break, going out [..going to my first pub crawl next Friday, yay ], teaching myself tabs on guitar and bass and yeah, lol. Oh and even though tickets haven't gone on sale yet, my friend and I are planning on going to see Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Trivium and Shadows Fall in October when they come here [..to our hometown, which is a HUGE thing for us, lol] on the Black Crusade tour. So I'm pumped about that xD.

i have lost my wallet... not good
[edit] I found my wallet! it was in my shorts :DDD
had a doctors appointment today, but i don't have to get a blood test like i thought they would so i guess that's good and i went to a Concert tonight. Good show. it was my friend's first concert and he really liked it. Didn't get to buy merch for any of the bands sadly, and we left as the last was doing their sound check but it was a thursday night and my dad has to go to work tomorrow so since he's our ride i guess that's understandable

Well, one of my poor parakeets, Lily, has been egg-bound for the past couple of weeks, and I've noticed that her abdomen was bulging rather abnormally for the past week. Her feet and beak were sort of a grayish-blue color, indicating circulation problems (all that extra weight she's been carrying puts pressure right on her sciatic nerve). Which is not good at all. I couldn't find ANY available avian vet clinics this afternoon, and almost all of the emergency vet clinics either didn't have one on hand, or they weren't comfortable with treating an egg-bound budgie (they're very small and delicate, and prone to heart attacks). After the 4th emergency vet I called, they finally referred me to an emergency vet over near Busch Gardens in Tampa (a pretty decent drive for me--almost half an hour with traffic on the interstate and all). They were supposed to have several avian vets on staff all the time that actually knew what they were doing. So I brought poor Lily up there, and they got me in a room, filling out paperwork pronto, while a tech took her in the back for the doc to look at. The vet did a quick probe of her abdomen, and thought it felt soft, instead of a hard shell like it normally would be. She said it could be either two things: Lily either has a soft shelled egg that was punctured in some way (possibly by falling from her perch or something)leaving that yolk to leak and cause infection, or she has an exofetus growing in there. Both are bad, because the abdominal cavity lining where the eggs are stored until being laid can actually start to attach itself to whatever's in there, making it very difficult to get it out of her. So, after deciding on a course of treatment, which includes a combo antibiotic/painkiller, aspiration (to suck out the gunk she's got in there and relieve pressure) and cytology (to see what the hell's in the gunk), she's staying there overnight in a nice, warm, humid incubator with oxygen (she was having a hard time catching her breath with the pressure on her organs). The vet is supposed to call me in the morning to let me know what was found, and hopefully Lily won't need any sort of physical invasive treatment to get whatever is left of the egg out of her. As it stands now, the bill reads:
Consult, emergency exam: $75.50 Fluid, SQ or IP: $43.25 Inj. avian Butorphanol: $16.00 Inj. avian Enrofloxacin: $16.00 Hospitalization - Inpatient: $36.72 Nursing Care - Inpatient: $52.50 Fine needle aspiration: $48.45 Miscellaneous: $30.00
Total: $318.42 (ouch)
The vet seemed pretty upbeat about her condition, considering how serious it is. Lily has been eating and drinking, is passing normal poops (that means her cloaca isn't clogged or inflamed), and can stand on and grip the perch (no nerve damage). She's in fairly good body condition, she's not dehydrated or malnourished, and her feathers look good. So, while it is an outrageous amount of dough to spend on little budgie when they die by the thousands during droughts in the Outback, I still would like to give her a chance. She's not a tame bird, or even a very nice one, but she's Peanut's woman, and he screamed all this afternoon after I came back home without her (gave me a damn headache). So he'd miss her too.

I know it sucks to pay that amount (I've done it as well) and only a true pet lover would understand. They're a part of the family, so you have to do whatever it takes. I hope Lily feels better soon so you and Peanut can both feel better as well! *HUGS*

I have a bird. A sparrow. A boy though. Named Birdie cuz I couldn't think of anything when I first got him. Plus I wasn't sure whether he was a boy or a girl. He was too small to tell. Just barely growing feathers.

Today is my bf's dads wedding. I wish I was there with him in Austin. That would be cool.

Awww! Sparrows are so cute!
Lily seems to be doing better. Her feet and beak aren't as blue, more like a gray-pink, and she was chirping and dancing a little when I put her in her small cage next to the big one, so Peanut can still be near her. She still has an outrageously large swelling, and the vet is pretty sure it's yolk from a busted soft-shell egg inside her.

Kim, I hope Lily recovers fully! I'm not familiar with birds in general--my bros had birds (cats agreed to be "mine" ), and my Dad and I have convelesced one bird, but I've never heard of birds getting attached to one another, other than Cardinals. Good on poor Peanut! Can anything be done with the yolk? (I feel really strange asking that--) And, yeah, pets are family. Every penny spent on them is worth it.

They'll have to extract it somehow. It's very viscous. She's doing pretty good now, more alert and upbeat, and taking her meds. Just that lump!
