Korn are attention whores too. Yes because we all know KoRn have been overhyped like MM lol. KoRn work hard for the attention they get and dont rely on make up and gimmics to get attention. Mudvayne learened and thats why MM will never be as good as both of them. |

I like a lot of MM's work. I don't think he's a likeable personality, but he's frighteningly intelligent. He knows his shit alright.
All artists are attention whores. What could possibly be more attention seeking and egotistical than thinking that hundreds or thousands of people should pay money to stand about for ages waiting to listen to/look at you?

I don't see MM getting either, yet he has tons of fans backing him up year after year. Metal fans aren't shallow enough to fall for make-up and gimmicks-bands do it because they want to, not to try to pull in a new legion of fans. They dig deeper and appreciate bands for their music &/or lyrics. I agree Sarah, like many good metal artists MM is extremely intelligent and has his fingers on the pulse of society. That shows through in his music. His sole purpose is not to go out and make the next big single! |

Every band has an image. Every band has some fans who like them based on their image, some who like them for their prowess as musicians, some who like them for their lyrics, some who like them because they're idiots who feel obliged to like popular bands... any number of reasons. I don't think it's fair to say that anyone sells records via their image, the onus there is on the fans as to why they like them. Real bands I mean. Obviously the same can't be said of Britney etc.

Yeah, it's not like retard bands such as Limp Bizkit, or the redneck crud of Kid Rock. How have other bands not busted their asses? How is Korn so special? Because they're your favorite? That's subjective speculation. MM didn't get their success handed to them on a platter, neither did Mudvayne, Slipknot, or any other successful rock band for that matter. All bands have "gimmicks", it's what gets the attention of the record companies. Slipknot had masks, and came onto the scene with something no one had ever heard or seen before. Manson had his creepy Satanic act and brought a new dimension to goth/industrial rock. Korn had this raunchy nu-metal beat and heavy sound that was also unlike anything heard at the time. The first time I saw a Korn video was on Beavis and Butthead! Mudvayne sort of rode in on Slipknot's coattails, but they acknowledged that from the beginning, and eventually distinguished themselves from the rest of the pack in due time. Which I think was harder for them to do, having come out on the scene a bit late and having a somewhat similar shtick as Slipknot. We all know that the two bands are completely different, but that came after we'd mentally made the comparison between the two. Take emo for instance. I can't stand listening to that shit. It's whiny, all the bands sound and look alike, and seem to have no substance whatsoever. But that's me. Like what you want, I won't give you a hard time about it. Unless you like country. Then I'll have to hurt you.  |
