They were all great at the show that I went to. The COB keyboardist was pouring booze into the rhythm guitarists mouth at one point which was kinda funny. Lamb of God really got the crowd going. On their third last song, the pit was like 50 feet long and everyone was running around inside it like a track. Slayer was amazing. Only complaints were that Jeff's solos weren't that audible (neither were Dave's cymbals), and Tom is definatly losing his voice. Very badass with the TV screen and inverted cross stacked amps.

Ok, so I didn't just get back from Slayer, but I saw them last week on Saturday and thought you guys'd appreciate a review : As most of you know [even just from my 'zomfg, I'm-gunna-die' bulletin (on myspace) I posted an hour before I left home xD], my friend, Beth and I went to see Slayer last night at Thebarton Theatre, and I can now definitely say that I am a HUGE fan. Slayer were just...wow, so fucking amazing. They absolutely ruled! It was definitely the best concert that I have ever been to, with the obvious exception of Mudvayne [only because I love Mudvayne xD]. The supporting bands, Mastodon and Double Dragon were awesome too...pretty damn good considering that they had massive expectations to live up to because they were opening for Slayer for Christ sake, and everyone in the venue was just there for Slayer, so they did well considering...but more about them later. So, Beth and I got there earlier than planned, at around 6:30pm. But it was ok because the line to get inside was huge so we just waited for around half-an-hour, listening to the people standing around us shouting shit like "we're going to hell" [was actually amusing because we were standing right next to a church xD] and the whole 'Slayyyyerrrrrrrr' in the "cookie monster" growls, lol. Finally at 7:00pm, the line started to move and we got inside, where upon we made our way straight to the floor in hopes of getting the rail, but unfortunately the people standing at the front of the line [majority of them were huge (drunk/stoned) guys] had the same idea as us and had taken ALL of the rail. Beth and I decided it was good idea to get off the floor before it started to 'fill' because the tickets had sold out and the crowd was huge, and we didn't want to get crushed [as 'helpfully' pointed out by one of my friends, death awaits in a Slayer pit...so Beth and I didn't weren't too eager on staying in there xD]. So we headed back up towards the entrance, then went upstairs and got ourselves a cushiony seat smack in the middle, looking down at the floor and the stage, where I was eye level with the vocalist(s) [hehe xD]. The first band that played were Double Dragon [though at the time, I had no idea who they were, lol]. AND they're from Adelaide, so they're [very] local boys! Which I think is just so fuckin' sweet...imagine opening for Slayer [and Mastodon] in your hometown. Like holy shit, that's gotta say something. Good on 'em xD. They weren't bad, though I must admit, they weren't particulary amazing or anything- though I can understand why. They got pretty good crowd response [not much moshing, but decent amount of head-banging etc] and the vocalist was pretty good with communicating with us, which I always have respect for because I don't imagine it's all that easy to interact well with a crowd of people who don't even know who the fuck you are, lol. Don't know the setlist for these guys, sorry because I haven't heard any of their music before. Next band was Mastodon. Their backdrop was the cover of their latest album, Blood Mountain. The light effects they had were awesome and the smoke machines were cool. They put on an impressive show and the crowd really got into 'em. The [lead] guitarist has a killer fuckin' growl on him and I was amazed at how long the vocalist could scream/sing for without taking a breath, then pause and go right back into it without fucking up at all. Something went wrong with his mic about halfway through, I think because at one stage, he moved away from it and this techie just walked on stage [to the right], gave the crowd the devil-horns and moved behind the speakers to fix whatever went wrong up. I didn't recognise any of their songs by name, because I haven't been a fan of them for that long, but I recognised some of the riffs from listening to their songs the night before. Also, here's a random fact I just found for you guys on Wikipedia [though everything on Wiki should be taken 'with a pinch of salt' aka skepticisim because it's not a 'professional' site]: "Brent Hinds was seen starting a fight with an innocent barman while touring Australia in support of Slayer during April 2007, causing public outrage amongst the Adelaide [where I live, for those who don't know] community. City Mayor Adam Zezoski expressed distaste at the incident, calling it a "violation of basic principles of human decency". Even though I don't agree with Brent doing it, Adam's statement is fair fuckin' stupid. Shit like that happens all the time, the 'basic principles of human decency' hardly exist anymore. And finally at around 9-9:30pm, once the techies had changed the equipment and set everything, and the pit was well and truly full of people, the lights went out and the smoke machines started up again. Everyone started shouting out 'Slay-er, Slay-er' and they came on stage, opening with Discipline [though, I didn't know what it was at the time]. All the way through Slayer [not when they were actually playing, obviously..just in between songs or just a quick glance when they were playing], I kept on looking down at the setlist that the lighting techie had stuck to his computer five rows down from me, to see what songs they were playing and to get an idea of what'd be next .
The special effects for Slayer were outstanding. The backdrops were brilliant [pictures of Slayer's logos, album covers, stuff from WW2 and Sept. 11..at one stage, I actually felt really sick from the backdrop and had to focus on Kerry because the backdrop was of this terrorist with half his head blow off and just covered in blood...so they certainly achieved a decent level of 'shock/horror'], the smoke machines were fair cool though the guys kept disappearing at one stage when the smoke got too heavy and of course, the lights were so good.
Tom [lead vocalist] is a great guy. Through out the show, he continued to thank the crowd for coming and even though there wasn't much communication between him and the crowd, besides the songs, it was enough and he really got everyone very much into it [though you'd expect that from a band like Slayer, who've been around for quite a while]. I don't have to tell you guys what their songs were like, because you should know that they were just fucking amazing. It's Slayer, c'mon..of course they were gonna be brilliant.
I was shocked at what the pit was like though. Talk about fucking slack. Christ, only the first four rows were moving and everyone else was just standing still watching Slayer and/or headbanging. Though the amount of people headbanging and giving devil-horns was impressive.
I got this weird guy sitting next to me when Slayer were playing, who kept staring at me. He was obviously under the influence of something because during Slayer, he'd stand up and dance [like he was in a club] and play air guitar. It was like, duuudde, what the fuck?! Lol.
After about 17 songs, Slayer went off stage for a few minutes then came back on for an encore, kick starting it with South of Heaven, which just RULED! I've always been a fan of that song, and the version I have on iTunes doesn't even do justice to the live version, lol. Needless to say, as soon as it started, everyone just went insane and during the line "before you see the light, you must die!", Tom paused, held the mic out to the crowd and let us all scream "DIE!". After South of Heaven, they played Angel of Death and then they finished.
As the crowd started to leave, I noticed that the setlist on the techie's computer was still there, so I jumped up, clambered over five rows of chairs [hoping that I wouldn't step on anyone because it was dark] to the little area where the techie was boxed into, tapped him on the shoulder and asked him for the setlist...annnddd, to my surprise, he gave it to me. Then as I was about to leave, another techie sitting down next to the light guy smiled at me and passed me this piece of paper he got from somewhere in their area. I was like..uhh, thanks man, but what the fuck is this?! Then I looked at it in the light before I went back up to Beth and saw that it was Slayer's fucking schedule for the day!! Like, fuck yeah!!! I waved it at Beth, but away from people near me in case they tried to grab it, thanked the techies profusely and clambered back up five rows of seats, giving the people who had realised what I'd went and got high-5's when they held their hands out to me as I went past. And the even better thing about that is even though it sucks that I didn't get the rail, IF I had, I wouldn't have got the setlist and schedule. So there's a silver lining to everything .
So, because of the setlist I got, I'm now able to tell you guys exactly what Slayer played [in the order they played 'em]: - Discipline [opening] - War Ensemble - Jihad - Die By The Sword - Show No Mercy - Captor of Sin - Cult - Bloodline - Mandatory Suicide [was amusing when Tom talked a bit beforehand about 'achieving' death..it was like, uhh, ok then xD] - Seasons in the Abyss - Supremist - Eyes of the Insane - Post Mortem - Silent Scream - Dead Skin Mask [backdrop for this was gross too] - Raining Blood [closing] - South of Heaven[encore] - Angel of Death [encore]
Overall, the concert was mindblowing and definitely worth going to. I can't wait to see them again xD. I'll post the pictures of the setlist, Slayer's schedule and my ticket later next week because mum's got the camera at work at the moment. I don't have any pictures of the concert, sorry, because like most venues, Thebby doesn't allow cameras in. But there were a few people there with small cameras and phones, so I'll check for pics on the net a bit later and post 'em up on here if I find any, for you all .

Sucks that the crowd was a bunch of pussies though Thanks, yeah ;D. Absolutely, and there was no way I was gonna let anyone else get it . Mm, you'd think that there would have been a bit more crowd participation considering it's Slayer.

I have a bootleg of Slayer at one of their European shows last year and the crowd was just as you said....standing around, some not even looking at the stage. I was thinking wtf is wrong with these people?! I just don't get it. I'm usually a nice person-but tend to be rather aggressive when it comes to getting a piece of memorabilia from a concert LOL. When I got my Mudvayne pick, it had fallen on the floor when it was tossed and I stepped on it. Others were trying to get it and I wouldn't move my foot. This one guy swore he was only trying to help me, but I didn't believe him....as it turns out he had already gotten a pick and really WAS trying to help me get it! You don't take any chances when it comes to things like that especially if its Mudvayne!
