In my eyes, it's like a prequel to TEOATTC. It's heaviness is only overcome by LD50 (of course), and heavier then the others. The odd time sigs and a few weird interludes are a trip down memory lane, and another set of eyes, I fucking love it. It feels like the album is familliar, like it's always been there, but it's so new. The little intro to "Beauitful and Strange" gave me that "Monolith/Dig'' feeling. Trying to anticipate when it's gonna explode into the song. "1000 Mile Journey" really shows the revival of the odd time sigs, the heaviness is amazing, and the lyrics are some of the darkest, and the song has a natural creepy feel, the outro just puts the icing on the cake in the creepy feel and it draws into that sci fi-ish end to it. "Scream With Me" is probably one of the best singles I've heard from them in a long time, it's the most radio friendly song on the record, yet it's still beautiful, and strange. "Closer" has an interesting beginning and then it blows up into a heavy riffing, brutal screaming, masterpiece, having the creepy melodic parts that add to the darkness. "Heard It All Before" has the anxious intro, that shows alot of Pantera influence, yet still Mudvayne defined, the verse, verse, choruse, verse, chorus, bridge ect. theme to it is a plus, it's not very repetitive, and the lyrics end in about a 15 second long scream the, falling right back into the matching outro. "I Can't Wait" takes no time in getting into it, starting with one of Chads best roars, the inside looking out feel in the lyrics makes you feel just as dark as the song itself, again adding the odd time sigs, with very heard bass, and blasting drums, and some of the best screaming. "Beyond The Pale" has a Tool sort of feel in the beginning seconds with Ryans bass lines, but any thought of Tool is eliminated in seconds after Greg steps in with an erie guitar riff, and then it just takes a sharp turn into the verse and gets a steady pace with melodic vocals, only to 360 into heavy guitar work, and Chads brutal screams. "All Talk" begins with a slow pace, light guitar, and light vocals, then turning into a pretty heavy chorus, talking about love/hate, lessons taught/lessons not learned. Its an interesting concept. "Out To Pasture" has yet another creepy beginning, with the weird intro with a slow start with Ryans bass, then Greg enters with another erie riff, then Chad and Matt make their way to the song, following the slow pace, only to transform into a slow, yet heavily brutal chorus, with a blasting type of drums and bass, and slowing at the end of the chorus with a loaded gun, and then transforming into the same erie beginning, definately one of my favorites so far. "Burn The Bridge" starts with Greg, and then really kicks off when Chad explodes into a screaming rage, and the rest seem to be following him. "Dead Inside" Mudvayne's second ever acoustic track, pushing a slow pace, giving you the feel of exactly what the title says, listening to the words, and feeling through the music. This track has a very reaching vibe, somehow it will get to you, I can guarantee that, only to end with an outro matching the same intro when you started this album. I give it a 9.5/10, it's the assurance everybody needed from them after the radio friendly 'The New Game' showing you that, they are far from being done with their journey. This album is only second to LD50 in my eyes.

nice review. can't wait to hear this. honestly, after the low quality releases by the people for the people, hellyeah, and the new game, i am surprised that people are rating the new album above lost & found, let alone TEOATTC. that gives me hope that this album will not disappoint.

It most definately will not disappoint, I can guarantee. You'll seriously be left thinking "Lost & What?" or "The New what?" this CD feels like it was made between LD50 and TEOATTC

I give the album 8/10, for me LD50 and Eoattc can't be touched by any of the albums. The only song im not into is 'Beyond the pale' but it might grow on me or not. 'Beautiful and strange' '1k mile journey' 'Closer' 'Heard it all before' 'Can't wait' 'Out of pasture' 'Dead inside' are really good songs, specially the first two.

i love the whole album but if i had to pick my absolute 5 favorites from it, they would be:
All Talk I Can't Wait 1000 Mile Journey Beyond the Pale Burn the Bridge
it's a shame they're not going to be touring for this album. i would kill just to hear at least one new song played live

yea! I found this on the prp.
"Mudvayne Have Little Planned For Their New Album 09.12.09 @ 3:39 am Posted by wookubus ARTISTdirect recently conducted an interview with Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray which confirms that the band have no plans to tour behind their upcoming new self-titled album, and that they are doing little in the way to promote it.
When asked if the band had been writing anymore new material lately, Gray offered the following:
“No, we haven’t. We haven’t done anything. We’re not even doing anything behind this record. We’re not touring, we’re not doing shit. We’re just putting it out.”
Members of the band have instead been focusing on other interests, with Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett overseeing the production of Nonpoint’s new album. The pair have also been working on a new HELLYEAH album as well. Mudvayne’s self-titled album is currently scheduled for a December 22nd release date through Epic."
what the fuck? I am so goddamn pissed!

What do you guys think of this: Instead of releasing the new game and self-titled separately, why didn't they either just release one really long cd, or put out a double album??
I like the new album, it's great, but my one complaint is that it is too short, much like tng was. I think many people would've been blown away if they had come out together. Of course, all I have to do is combine the two on a playlist and I have my double album, but imagine what it would've been like to have 23 new mudvayne songs all at once???! I think it would've been much more successful than the separate releases....just my opinion..

Personally I dont think that would of worked. like these albums are far too different, and compared to this album TNG is average at best. This Album absolutely dominates and is a really big concution of everything we've ever heard from Mudvayne, While TNG was just different from what we've heard from them before, and that wasnt too crash hot. plus we would of had to wair 4 years for a new album! fuck that!

I never really considered Mudvayne a metal band, but this album changes that. It is fucking heavy. Everyone is at the top of their game (although I still need a black light to check how good the lyrics are), the production is great and the songwriting and riffing are amazing. The interludes are fucking great. The whole album feels so dark, depressing, moody and mysterious-and that's amazing. Current favourites are 1000 Mile Journey (including the epic outro), I Can't Wait and Out To Pasture I guess. I still need to listen to this several dozen times over the next few days and familiarize myself with it. Weakest would probably be Closer, but that's still a great song. Dead Inside was pretty dark, especially knowing that Greg wrote that song. The weird thing was, I felt closure, calmness, a sense reflection, etc after that song ended and went into the machine noises and the album was over. As if I knew this would be the last album Mudvayne ever does, and I wasn't upset. With this album, they have come full circle. I think they have done everything they could possibly do with their sound and style.
