This may be a strange thread, but I have a reason for asking the question.
Today I went to my cousin's memorial service. She had a brain tumor. She was 39. She leaves behind a husband, a 17 year old son and twin 13 year old daughters. She knew she was dying and planned her entire service. She played 6 songs, only 4 I can remember right now, but she told us that each song had a special message for us.
This got me to thinking. I hope to live for a good long time, but what would I want people to hear at my funeral? Why not figure it out now while I'm healthy and of sound mind and write it down?
So, what songs do you want played at your funeral?

My cousin played these:
The Dance by Garth Brooks (i want that too, always makes me cry!) She Don't want the World by 3 Doors Down. (never heard it, now love it) Hurt by Christina Aguilera (sad!) Angels on the Moon by Thriving Ivory (don't think I had every heard it before, cried like crazy----lyrics so you can too)
Do you dream, that the world will know your name? So tell me your name (tell me your name) Do you care, about all the little things or anything at all? (or anything at all) I wanna feel, all the chemicals inside I wanna feel (I wanna feel) I want a sunburn, just to know that I'm alive To know I'm alive (to know I'm alive)
Don't tell me if I'm dying, 'cause I don't wanna know If I can't see the sun, maybe I should go Don't wake me 'cause I'm dreaming, of angels on the moon Where everyone you know, never leaves too soon
Do you believe, in the day that you were born? Tell me, do you believe? (do you believe) And do you know, that every day's The first of the rest of your life?
Don't tell me if I'm dying, 'cause I don't wanna know If I can't see the sun, maybe I should go Don't wake me 'cause I'm dreaming, of angels on the moon Where everyone you know, never leaves too soon
This is to one last day in the shadows And to know a brother's love This is to New York City angels And the rivers of our blood This is to all of us, to all of us
So don't tell me if I'm dying, 'cause I don't wanna know If I can't see the sun, maybe I should go Don't wake me cause I'm dreaming, of angels on the moon Where everyone you know, never leaves too soon
Yeah, you can tell me all your thoughts 'Bout the stars that fill polluted skies And show me where you run to When no one's left to take your side But don't tell me where the road ends 'Cause I just don't wanna know, No I don't wanna know
Don't tell me if I'm dying Don't tell me if I'm dying

I'll probably have a huge playlist, but ones I know that will for sure be played are Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven and Severed by Mudvayne. I have some lyrics that are like a postmortem message to the deceased person's family and friends, so once I put music to that, it would be cool to play.
BTW, sorry to hear about your cousin.

Sorry about your cousin Shroom. It's always even more sad when there's children left behind. She did a great job at choosing her songs. I don't really want a traditional funeral, I would just want a get-together at our house or something, kind of a party....and have my soundtrack playing in the background. Some of the songs I would include: Descend The Shades Of Night (Machine Head) Goodbye (of course) Planet Caravan (Sabbath) See You On The Other Side (Ozzy) Imperium (Machine Head) Death Blooms Bleed (Cold) So Far Away (Staind) and a bunch more that I can't think of at the moment.... Since I've always been a big lyrics fanatic, I'd want some on my urn or box (I'm being cremated). Some that I've considered: "Death blossoms where clouds lie over me, in God's hands death blooms" "Hole in the sky, take me to heaven, window in time, through it I'll fly" (Sabbath) "don't fake your life, inhale it" (Pantera), "catch my soul 'cause it's willing to fly away" and "life down here is just a strange illusion" (Iron Maiden) "let go your sorrow, sun will shine, this I promise" (Machine Head) I guess it all depends on what my spiritual beliefs are when my time comes

I keep hearing lyrics that stand out now that it's in my mind. I'm trying to write them down when I hear them.
