Yeah, these guys are absolutely amazing--they're not just playing the songs, they're totally making true string interpretations. Talk about getting inside a song and finding a truth of it. If you can find the video of them headbanging to In the Hall of the Mountain King, download it for yourself! It's from a German (?) television show, and they blew the place up. Their Fade to Black is as intense as Metallica's, I think. I play violin and fiddle; these guys have inspired me to look into taking cello lessons! I'd love to compose an all-string version of Maiden's Where Eagle's Dare and Die With Your Boots On....

I just read some of their tour journal entries on their website---how funny and sweet do they seem?!!!! I wish they'd more of a market here. I'd buy tickets for my friends, coworkers--strangers! We need more Metal Cello!

Cello's a fun insturment to play, but it does take up a lot of space! lol So do Perttu and Eicca's hair!! Is it ok to dredge up deeply embedded (i.e. "old") posts in this thread? I hope so: I really, really recommend these Gentlemen to everyone. At the very least, due to the deep-rooted Metal roots of most of the guys, especially Perttu, with his love of black, death, and thrash metal, this is how I'm actually easing my way into giving some of the more extreme modes of metal a chance. For example, Soulfly is lovely, (edit: yes, I suppose Sepultura is lovely, also...after midnight and 2 glasses of fine cabernet...) for any number of reasons, but the vocals...well...you all know my aversion to a particular style of vocalizing. But after after hearing "Repressed", and seeing the 'making of' video...Cavalera's vocals make so much more sense to me. Seeing and hearing him talk about his work made me more amenable to listening to him. And I know: that's kind of naff to get into something in so sideways a fashion, but...so be it. And of course, if one isn't into Slayer, giving Betrayal/Forgiveness a chance or two might at least get one interested in such a drumming style (...if this is, of course, one's first aural taste of ApoLombardo rhythmics!!) *sigh* CelloMetalFinns...

Well, the HotFinns' video for "I'm Not Jesus" is out (leaked?) It'is out officially at the end of next month. The link is on their official phorum (www.apoclyptica.com) and I'm sure somewhere on the Stone Sour official forum. I'm a die-hard wait-till-the-album-drops-officially kind of gal, so I've not seen but a few moments of it (and won't until the end of next month...) The Guys are sounding great (Apo-lution!!) and Corey's looking and sounding very well. It'll be interesting to interpret his lyrics. I'm ready for the naysayers,too--trust the Musicians! *These* guys are one of many (Mudvayne included) who know where they want to go, and how NOT to get there, even being on a 'big' label now. They're hoping for better and more consistent distribution; Apofans (including me) are hoping they stay tight and true.

Ok, I'm triple posting, but at least not in the same month! FYI: in anticipation of the new album and World CelloDominationTotallyHotFinn Tour, the official site and forum (why do they spell it "phorum"?) is being taken down soon while the site gets overhauled. I don't know if anyone here visits there, but one of the longstanding fans has revived her GoogleGroup Emergency forum for the interim (it was used the last time the site was updated a couple of years ago...) groups.google.com/group/Apocalyptica_ER_Phorum

I'm finally warming up to it--I didn't listen to it in full until the official release date (yeah, it's ingrained in me to wait until the official drop date--hey, it wasn't so long ago that we'd wait for word from the appropriate radio station and record store--old habits die hard!) Folks are complaining...me included...that the cellos aren't as prominent as "we" like or are used to. We're just afraid of the guys getting mowed under by promotion, 'the business', etc. Stupid, really. These guys could exit Metal and the public eye and still be grooving on the cello in the Helsinki PH; private teaching gigs (which is what one of them does, anyway...); freelancing in area orchestras and sinfonias; composing...etc. They all do this anyway. I just canna understand why *this* song, true as it is, was chosen as the first worldwide single, no dis to Corey Taylor. Well, the whole album is out the 17th of next month, worldwide. I'll preorder (can I still keep my "release Purist" badge?!!) I'd like to add a link to their homepage, in addition to Kathy's above: the first News entry is a link to an interview with Eicca and Perttu, concerning the genesis and meaning of I'm Not Jesus..ok, it's really an interview with Eicca, but from what I understand, this is par for the course--he's the one who has to be collared onto the bus after the shows because he cannot stop talking!! You'll need RealPlayer. www.apocalyptica.com

Sorry for the multiple "double postings" in this thread! But this time it's for a really good reason Because I dallied too long in getting a ticket to this Friday's show at the Paradise in Boston, believing the show would not sell out, by the time I got my head out of the workflow at work for a minute, the show was...well, sold out. So I paid my penance, sucked it up and paid for tickets on eBay. I know--stupid. But I need to see these guys and rock out to avocational and vocational mastery and passion. It will restore some faith I lost somewhere between 75 Arlington and 501 Boylston. So--to the really good part: the tickets were only being sold in pairs, and I have an extra one. Please someone tell someone to tell someone: a free ticket is available. And as this is a general admission show, this wise individual who can make it to the show this Friday will not have to hangout with me--I'll be leaving them in the dust to rush the stage to magically morph into a fangirling dorkwad, stage left, in front of Antero Manninen. Lauren, I'm not sure if you can make it Friday, but you are most welcome to this ticket. I'm not not offering this on any other site (including Craigslist or the official Apo board) so if one of you folks here, or anyone else you may know who'd like to go, would like to rock out to Metal Cello, please PM me here, or send me a message at my myspace page: myspace/worlds_winds116. No strings.... ...attached. You have to get your own ride or CharlieCard, though! And no, the ticket won't go to waste--if there are no takers by Friday afternoon, either I'll strongarm my buddy Kate or Liz into going (hopefully) or I'll put at least one scalper out of business at the door

I only heard about these guys a couple months ago and I refused to believe it was only cellos until recently! I love the song with Corey Taylor and I've listened to some other songs on their myspace - they're pretty badass, I must say.
