Hey.
I got the new album and i am very disappointed to say the least.
(Not even to say that i am totally fretted, because i need some kind of slave-labour manufactured blacklight to be able to look at the cover/inlay/lyrics.
Fancy. Sure.
But hey, please leave that to the loons who desperately need to buy a collectors edition. A plain old printout would have done.
Anyhow this is not even reflecting the quality of the music.)
The old saying
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."
pops into my mind.
I have read a lot of reviews to receive some kind of confirmation,
that neither my ears, nor my memory is dysfunctional...
But the average rating that most magazines gave was about 7-8/10.
They even go so far as to praise the intro/outro.
Am i insane or what? My tumble dryer could have done that!
Shouldn't the critics know it better?
(After all, they should even be able to name the bands from whom various musical elements have been... borrowed (not to say stolen)
for this particular record.)
Maybe that's because i have been a listener from the beginning and loved the unconventional song structures and the non-cliché'd, creative mashup of various genres.
That's what i liked Mudvayne for.
To be honest, since "Lost and Found" the general trend towards
tidier song structures and stereotypical stylistic features already sneaked in and culminated in "The New Game".
I was hoping that Mudvayne was able to turn the tide again with their self-titled album.
But that was not the case.
{I don't know for certain if this is because Mudvayne has run out of ideas, or time to be creative, or if their management has lured them into an adhesion contract which forces them to release
a semi-finished album each year...
Maybe someone else from this forum knows more.}
I think it is time for me to give up the hope that Mudvayne will ever go "back to the roots".
Am I the only one who feels this way?
(I have given the people who would just say "Oh, the haters!"
the possibility to do that via the poll also.)
Regards, weirddonkey
