The Peoria, Illinois, progressive metal quartet have gone their separate ways for now according to frontman Chad Gray. A surprising announcement that is sure to shock all fans. Chad tells MTV News that despite having a new record done for Mudvayne the band feels they need more time apart.
"We basically have a record done, but I stepped away from it for a while, while doing this Hellyeah thing and Mudvayne doesn't excite me right now." he said, referring to the side project he's touring with that has him and Mudvayne guitarist Greg Tribbett teaming up with Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla and Pantera kitman Vinnie Paul (see "Vinnie Paul Returns To Make 'Hellacious' Magic With Hellyeah"). "I started seeing Hell Yeah as my main band and having such a great relationship with the guys from Hell Yeah i know i need to focus on them alone right now. All the guys in Mudvayne seem to agree that we need another year or so to work on other projects ."
Chad also adds that bandmate Greg Tribbett will also work on Hell Yeah while bassist Ryan Martinie and drummer Matthew McDonough will move on to different projects. Chad adds
"We know fans love Mudvayne but I'm in the mood for some more Hell Yeah," he said, "I don't know when Mudvayne will return but it wont be for another few years."
